(from Bic) That One Step warm-up game sure had us well-prepared for the match. Review of game tapes revealed it was responsible for our three-game sweeping fabulousness. We have One Step to thank for Keith’s spry backcourt passing and digging. Stephy’s “crazy” leg muscle strain? One Step again. Pitter’s wild-man (Dive for cover!) swings for sure wouldn’t have been possible without One Step. Likewise, Craig’s jump-o-matic serves wouldn’t have brought as much fury. Lastly, let’s not forget Trina and Bic’s spooky color-coordination - Oh the magic of One Step! If only it could make basketball hoops a little less scary…

Serve It Up
(from Trina... her first!) 6-1-22222222 - strikes again! Swept the three games, although we started out a little "rusty!" After Pat smashed a woman in the face with his hit, the game turned around (all for the better if you ask me!!) Now, if we can just figure out where in the world the setter is going to be -- we'll be unstoppable! Great games everyone! Decided to celebrate the win with din-din at Fridays - and the all important question came up - are you "dating" or "seeing" people....I believe it was 4-2 - in favor of "dating", but I could be wrong. Other items of conversation that got everyone involved were -- getting an "exam" by Dr. Keith, getting their vote in for their favorite romantic movie, best dessert and who DOES have the best chicken fingers? Let the debates continue!

Hmmm
(from Bic) Our young pups opponents were really punks tonight. Skinny, brown-haired guy started off the game with complaints about the balls (agreed). Things got a little absurd though when he tried to hock airy-fairy stories about “our” bad sets during the match (ahem). Hip-hugger gal got in on the action by turning on the B-OTCH switch – Trying to convince everybody that a 10-footer from her was the best option. A little bird heard “whore” coming out of Trina’s mouth (such rage). This same little bird may have offered a free dinner to anyone who drilled hip-hugger’s face with the ball (ahem). We took game one pretty easily with a tips-ky here and there from our l’il Craig Monkey. Bad things happened (Keith and Bic) in the second game. It didn’t help that their gorilla kept dunking the ball in his front-game routine without penalty. Down by something like 10 in the third, we came back behind Keith’s huge net play for one of our best v-ball wins ever. To top off the night, we headed to Dave’s for some yummy riblets (that erased Stephy’s memories of the game), porky junior dinners (very macho), and STORYTIME. Nothing like capping off the night with a mail-order groom and exotic masseuse. Hop on the Asian train 763, we’re going for a crazy ride!

Sudden Impact
(from Craig) The night started off with the possibility of not even playing. For some reason the wall separating the gyms would not move and our pregame hitting lines were limited. We started off slow, despite the opposition having four players. Through a series of timeouts, they tried to buy time to enable their third girl to arrive, but we flexed and said "Not on our watch, bitch." JK. Well it was too late, as we squeaked out game one. Games 2 and 3 had their moments, but 612! wasn't able to mount any serious chance of winning. As a captain, I was way too negative, and quite honestly we didn't have the same feeling of team that we've had the last few weeks. I think it was a matter of frustration with just not having our A game. Next week should highlight a healthy team Schlichting, a returning Asian boy, some serious attitude from Trina, yet another shirt that doesn't match anyone from Bic, and of course a couple more floor burns from Keith. Thanks to Chris for filling in, and your highlight of the night was a line hit on a quick set from Trina that essentially went straight down. Oh I almost forgot Steph had a sweat solo block that brought one of the few late cheers to the squad. Bring your party hats, because next week we're celebrating.

Fantastics
(from Steph) I bet you thought you'd find a recap in here . . . maybe even two. I'm a loser. Let's see . . .6 1 TWO! It's a week later which means you're about to read a terrible recap (because I can only recall one person on their team (bandana guy)) and I really don't remember many details. Lesson learned? I doubt it. Oh. Craig tells me there was a tall guy with fuzzy hair and another shorter guy with a mustache. I think they had a coach too. Hmmmmm . . . that doesn't help. Oh well. The highlights! Craig was back with his arm in full swing, Pat and Keith were blocking machines, Trina found the corners, multiple people on our team put their serves in the net, Bic still didn't meet the dress code, (she also tired from all the "spinning" she was doing and just gave up), Keith and Craig hustled to save one from the back corner, we took two of three, <insert loud microphone noise here - geezZZ!>, a slap on the back from the waitress . . . ahhh, good stuff. Which will it be? Platinum or black?

Galactic Attack
Ran into a machine tonight. It was a good "challenge", to say the least and at times pretty fun... but perhaps slightly disheartening in the end. For once, I agree. That compilation of players (already our toughest opponent and now you add the "sub") is bit out of this league. At least we got Trina pissed... and that's always one sign of a raging success. Way to play tough. We got our hands on a lot of balls. What else can you do? Out next week. Cream some poor team without me! Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day!

(from Craig) Jessi and Bic's "please show up early" turned into 5 minutes before the game for Jessi, and to be honest, it had some effect on the mental game. With two new players, the early part of the first game seemed to be a bit out of tune. No matter, we pulled out the guns and shot down any and all of the opposition's advances. Well the story takes a drastic change, and we drop the next two. In the second game we had a couple good runs but couldn't seem to put it together and in the final game we took it to the end and lost 26-27. Yeah this is one of those nights where you can't help but think negative thoughts. Our opponents played their best, over cheered and we lost because we deserved to. Poor setting, untimely hitting and an occasional missed serve, led to our demise. Highlights - decent passing, some good hits by Chris, and an occasional block. We need to work on double blocks (despite opponent skill level), and setting. By setting I mean we need to be able to either set from a side or if we do set from the middle they need to hit locations. We're not in any position to win the league, so I suggest with the return of our full squad this coming week, please be prepared to try something new, which includes having fun.

Puke N Rally

Okay, let's apply the scientific method to our little experiment tonight. 1) Identify the Problem - We have had trouble blocking and being blocked by some of the stronger teams. 2) Hypothesis - Positioning/Strategy will help alleviate the problem. 3) Procedure/Execution - Honestly, not sure we ever got this down. 4) Observations - One of us was still a bit upset from the previous week's performance. 5) Conclusion - We can think. We can play. We can't think and play. Maybe not a full success (we did lose a game to a team of four that wasn't THAT strong)... but gave us some food for thought. Next week perhaps we go back to the control group for comparison. Less thinking... more spazzing (and more chicken fingers). That's just how we work. Let's come out and smoke the last two weeks.

Serve It Up
All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day! All Day... but don't take it personal(ly). We had a great week of sets, hits, energy and fun that had been missing in 612! as of late. We faced a much improved Serve It Up (new personnel) and were able to take all three. The match finished with a bit of fury as two little words (see above) sparked the jibber-jabber machine led mostly by the Asian duo. I'm sure our robot-like opponent had no idea he was going to get that many mouthfuls, but in the end, you should just know best not to go there... and in the face of one of our teammates none the less (and, for reference, apparently the amount of points accumulated through "all day" type play is evidently not enough to actually get you a win. Good to know). Let's keep this energy heading in to the last week. Play hard, have fun, tell secrets! What's said at Don Pablo's... stays at Don' Pablo's (course, Trina has a story to tell!). Bic, bring the sleeping bags. Keith, get down here with the cash. I'll bring the doggie bag. Good luck T-Pups!

Hmmm
(from Craig) With an afternoon email, Suks enlightened us with the attitude of let's go out have fun and play some good ball. Saying it is one thing, following through is another. In game one, our passing prevented pounding. Well what are we going to change? Nothing. We can take these guys, despite their attempt to put together a more competitive squad. Well just like the weather the day before, the ref issued a warning that things were going to get nasty. We pulled out our guns, dusted off the barrels, and just waited for the ladies to load them up. Blocking, serving, and setting set the table (pun intended) for the laser light show provided. Games two and three went to the good guys, and we ended the season on a high note. Next season toughen up so you can arm wrestle your arch nemesis, fulfill your role in obstacle course, and take over someone else's job.
