Who needs practice? Heck, score five runs in the first inning and it's a sure thing victory, right? Not so true when you triple the number of errors. Lost a close one in game one. Course, in game two, we ten-runned those "other" Hoggers after again scoring five in the first (which proves my theory correct 50% of the time). Another theory that seems to increase the chance of victory is adding more runs in the next innings and not throwing the ball all over the field. Just a thought. Could have been better... could have worse. Not a bad Seeds starts.

(from Rainbow (at 2 am)) This twi-night double header had it all. The seeds go to 3-1 on the young summer season with a sweep. Game 1 was a 19-9 ten run jobber in 5. With the way these bats were going, we could have played another inning, if we had more water. More of the same in game 2, this time going the full 7. Some nice performances, perhaps superstar caliber? Grant and Keith going a combined 14-16, homers by One Cup and Lee and Suks in the park 4 bagger. Great defensive by Dee displaying the San Francisco skills with two nice diving grabs in center. In his pitching debut, Tschak got the job done filling in for Till, who suffers from night blindness and can't go past 9 pm (just ask his woman). How about the more interesting stuff. Pat playing chicken with some tricky one-liners and Tobs with some nice grabs at SS. The opposing Hogger defense looked more like Spanky and the little rascals running around with that dog in a wagon. Many miscues and some fortunate Wee Willie Keeler, "hit em where they ain't" to aid the teams batting average. Rainbow and the Umps plan to run into batted balls and intentionally cause double plays worked. Thanks for the discretion ump, rule books are $9.95. Get one from Cactus, he's got his memorized. Sac Flys, questionable hits, interference - I think internal affairs is going to be investigating the books, anyone know a lawyer?

Call me intimidated (but don't call me late for dinner... take my wife, please!), but their matching jerseys threw me at first. Didn't also help that for some reason I thought they were huge (course, D taught us how to take down the big man... just hit him in the nuts). In the end, they were more bark than bite at the plate, but they were still the best team we played to date, and pretty sharp in the field. Despite all of this and some physical and mental errors (and slow sticks) on our part, we were able to split with our previously undefeated opponents. Not too bad. Next week... back to the land of fenced-in fields and flat outfields. Can't wait. (superstar)

Maybe you thought we were going to smoke these fossils as well... but for some reason, we came out flat. Sure, we ten-runned them both games, but something wasn't there, and we really should have pumped-up our averages this week. Oh well. Tobs did take advantage of finally having fences and cleared one. Also, Mark put an efficient (and quiet) 7 for 7 night together while playing whatever position in the field that needed to be played. I'm sure there are also some good Hogger stories (beer girl? porterhouse steak special?), but alas, I ditched. (superstar)

(from our fearless leader (Craig)) SCHOOL IN SESSION.... Fellow engineering firm Bonestroo arrived at the field preparing to do battle with a TKDA and Plowe employee and a host of others. Being the Plowe employee I provided the pre-season smack, well just enough to provide the spark for what could become a rivalry. Despite my own anxiety performance issues, nearly all of the rest of our boys went off on every meatball they delivered. Slapping hit after hit the Seeds could do little wrong, with the biggest surprise being a bomb out of Jeffy to the track. Deiberts shag in the hole, Vads bid at the ball near the fence, Suki getting tagged out for the first time I can recall and the ability to deal without Tobs (the best fielder who is only a sub). The seeds seem to be ripening with age going 2-0 on the night and are off to what could be there best win percentage on record. Gear up because next week we face off against Hoggsbreath Original who currently possess the best record in the league.

Hit for crap (.181 the second game), tons of errors... we sucked. Oh yeah, Twins game on Friday, July 18. Talk to Rainbow for details.

(from Grant) We made a bad team look silly. We hardly broke a sweat beating Micron 15-4, 9-1. Till pitched his best games of the season - High and Tight and kept 'em guessing. Speaking of High and Tight, it is nice to know that Cindy our Hoggsbreathe server has a BMP. Grant kicked Lee's ass in Shanghai Trivia. A new team picture will be available - a bevy of fine young ladies wanted to take a picture of the Hogger's finest! So we obliged them. What got crazy, though, was the ratio in the Bar after 10 o'clock. 10 - 1, the women out numbered the men - and Keith still could not score. Great night for softball.

Anyone for a swim? I guess all that rain had us frowny-faced because we came out flat and got beat-up the first game without much of a fight. Showed more Hogger Seed resilience by rallying back to take game two with some clutch two-out hits, aggressive base running andan unbelievable diving grab by Keith to end it.

Now, place your bets: Over-Under at year end is that D will lead in seven of nine offensive categories (sacrifices is still up for grabs) and lead the next highest average by .250. Any takers?

Couple big wins for the Seeds tonight (especially considering how our opponents were hitting it to and over all fences the first couple of innings). No matter, we hung tough with their big bats for a comeback win in game one. After we jumped to an 11-0 lead in game two (as tenacious as the skeeters), we started to wind the engine down to take it easy on them. Well, these boys, how dare they, tied it at elevens. Well, as one big F-U to them we went out and added 18 more (they were actually pretty good guys). Night was highlighted by lots of good hard shots by the Seeds (including 46 runs and five dingers... most of them for outs (D and Dar had the real ones)), big energy baserunning by Till and Tschak (3rd fastest?) and shutdown second base play by Rainbow (who would ever move him to short?). Well done boys. Let's be big next week (at both the field and the Hogger) to close out the summer right.

Despite killer mosqueets, some basepath issues (like they wouldn't get out of the basepath) , an ump with a a very low attention span and a little between team chipperness... the Hoggers swept their season finale to finish with their best winning percentage season to date. Defense was on top of it's game (even letting little old me play second) and the bats were hot (despite a mush ball) with a team batting average of .587. Great season all! Let's keep it rolling into the Ramsey tournament this weekend.

Oh, and let's not forget our 17 run, twice through the order inning. That's got to be a first.
