Public Clippers

August 10, 2004

You know, I like to look nice. Would say most of us do. In my book, hygiene and grooming are good things. But I’m still not convinced that public spaces are the best places for such activities. I’m still unsure about combing hair and applying make-up in public – I recently learned that I am definitely NOT okay with clipping nails in public. Was at a coffee shop enjoying some brew and a book, when I noticed this woman digging in her purse. After a few seconds, she pulls out a pair of clippers and starts trimming her finger nails. In a coffee shop! On the table! And I was eating a muffin! Sprinkles anyone!

I've also got a guy who does this at his desk at work (for example, during a conference call). All of a sudden you'll hear that distinctive "clip" sound that is undoubtedly a nail. Let's just hope it's not a toenail!

I recently saw a man at Cub Foods clipping his nails . . . in the produce department! Between the oranges and the floral. Yuck.

Okay, just saw a guy at Dunn Bros. take out a nail clipper from his coat pocket, clip a nail and then put the clippers back in his pocket. Seems like the clippers are a bit too “handy” – like a tube of Chapstick. What are people thinking?? Ick!
