Lawn and Garden Geek

May 13, 2005

This comes about nine months late - but no matter. I have a tall, always tan-looking friend who has a nice little place in Ham Lake (not too far from Duluth). A conscientious homeowner, my friend keeps her lawn and garden in good maintenance. Understandable. But one cold, winter night, as we were leaving the gym where we play league volleyball, this friend decided that she needed the tall grassy plant (looked like weeds to me) for her garden. So, in the middle of winter, she pulls a handful of these “grasses” for spring planting. HA! And recently, as we were cruising around Linden Hills, she remarked, “People around here sure love hostas.” Hostas?? My spell-check doesn’t even recognize the word. What, you mean those green, leafy things? Oh, the fast and furious life of 763-living!
