Well, at least we all showed-up. Actually, we had a pretty good night on the court winning two out of three close games. We were efficient in game one. Sloppy in game two (uh hum...missed serves). Lackluster, but still effective, in game three. Finished the night off with eight (umm...change that to seven) appetizers for our "really hungry" crew and an almost unanimous giant cookie order (Crabby Cookie Monster). Good start to the season. Keep it rolling for our late game next week. Who's up for a drink or two prior?

I don't think any of us thought we played that well...or with that much energy (out of rotation, missed serves, side conversations), but we fortunately played a not as strong team and took three games fairly easily. Good time to take a week off mentally...so we can bring it the rest of the season!

Razzle Dazzle
I was bummed at the end, but I'm not exactly sure why (maybe it was residual Vikings depression). We played really well against a very strong opponent (they were also pretty nice). We missed a few serves, passes, sets and hits...and they tooled and tipped around our block as well as anyone we've seen, but overall we stayed competitive and gave them their best match of the season (they even told us so). Thanks to super fan Johnny, three plates of wings and that extra piece of cookie to round out the night. And, just so you know, the Winter Olympics start of Feb. 12.

We Dig It

Well, we rode the wave of Nat's new bling and took game one...but really were off the entire night. Lots of mistakes and awkwardness and our opponents (all five of them) played well. So, we dropped the last two. Spent our time at Old Chicago talking about weddings, babies and how much money we need to retire. Man, we're getting old. No game's next week. Enjoy your time off! And, congrats to Nat and Jed! See you in Vegas!

By the way, is anybody reading these?

Blah. Our opponents were good, but we were flat...and frankly...didn't play very well. We passed a bunch in the net. We set a bunch over the net. We hit a bunch into the net. We served a few in the net. We even hit the net a couple of times. We were really fond of the net. And yup, we have now won a total of one game over the last month. Not great. Thanks to Rachel for subbing though. She kept positive...despite us flopping around her. We came around a bit at the end. Better luck next week.

Yes, maybe winning makes it all feel a bit better. Had a nice warm-up and came out firing with some nice sets and big hits (which, unfortunately, also spurred some crazy bad hits. Oh well). Our opponents were tall, but didn't bring much heat. We missed a few (okay, a lot of) serves, but still managed to win three games. Not much to much else to report...just a nice night of volleyball. We were overdue. Nice playing out of our sub Lindsay as well, who, after our match, went to the gym to train for a triathlon while the rest of us went to eat countless wings and giant cookies. So is life. No game next week. Enjoy!

Now we're rolling (although, I've got to tell you...with all these bye weeks...it's kind of hard to get into a rhythm). Two sweeps in a row. Good play and energy throughout, even if I wasn't able to hit that woman in the face. And, a valuable life lessons. If you're DVR goes out, at the very least, make sure you're not getting charged for it by your cable company. Missing out on the utter confusion of Lost or fun of Manny from Modern Family is bad enough.

Rookies
(switched)
The first game, we played like we have two right feet (well, at least two right shoes). We were out of sync and kind of sloppy. Looks like we got used to our camping shoes in game as we cruised to an easy win. That momentum didn't carry over to game three. We played better, but lost in a close game. Lindsay was there for a sick Nat. She played well. Overall, we had some good digs and rallies, but still didn't quite bring it all together. Oh well.

Despite a slow start (missed serves, in the net a couple of times) that cost us the first game, we had a pretty energetic night. Smoked them in game two (did we win by 20?) and had a nice comeback win starting out down 4-13 (they built most of that lead during my spike into the side of the gym rotation. Ugly). We did have some sloppy play that sent us scattering to all corners of the gym to track the ball down, but we were scrappy, dug and blocked well and made it all work. Plus, we all had our Old Chicago T-shirts. That's always nice. Now, back to Entourage Season 4!

Set to Kill

Okay, who's reading this?

After a rough start to the season, we've won 12 of our last 15 games. Not too shabby. And, another pretty fun night, including three wins by blowout, comeback and eeking it out. Not always the best fundamentals (umm...my passing), but we hustled and scrambled and had some sweet plays (and at least we were more consistent than that MegaTouch machine). Double-header next week to wrap up another fine season of vball. Let's play hard and have some fun!
