Thursday Night Volleyball
(Wide Spread Panic, Captain: Kirk Kosel)

Date How'd we do? An update from the "Captain"
October 26 Wide Spread Panic, boasting only 5 players and newcomers to the Gold Division, put up a valiant fight, but could only pull out 1 win in a 3 game match. They were disappointed but knew that next time they meet, things will be different (Season W/L: 1 Win 2 Losses)
November 2 WSP takes a 4 game thumping from a strong veteran team. The most they scored in any game was 9 points. Even with all 6 players, the squad struggled to find any semblance of an offense and was unable to defend against the rapid fire barrage of the other team. WSP moved up a division to play high caliber teams......they got their wish (Season W/L: 1 Win 6 Losses)
November 9 WSP, finally with all six starters, was able to take a game from a good but vulnerable ex-NDSU squad. WSP's blocking and hitting improved from last week, but the passing suffered a little. Jarrid Gode made his debut at weak-side hitter and did a superb job. WSP has two weeks off for the holidays. (Season W/L: 2 Wins 9 Losses)
November 30 WSP put the pieces together and got their first three game sweep of the season. Although the other team had some lack of height issues, they seemed to get soft blocks on all of WSP's attacks. The offensive onslaught coupled with some steady blocking, dismantled the other team in time for WSP to catch the second half of the Vikes game. (Season W/L: 5 Wins 9 Losses)
December 7 Even though the Gold Division's top team, Boozers and Losers, played short-handed, WSP could not seem to find the offense or defense to even take a game (lost 3) from the perennial champs. Somewhat disappointed, WSP looks forward to meeting B & L again. Next time the outcome will be different. (Season W/L: 5 Wins 12 Losses)
December 21 Once again, WSP suffered a 3 game sweep from another top team in the Gold Division. Not even the incredible "head pass" from Kirk could change the outcome. Fortunately, WSP has a two week hiatus to rest up for the second half of the season. It will also allow the swelling of Kirk's melon to go down, hopefully. WSP are in need of a tournament to allow their team to gel. These one match wonders just aren't doing it. Happy Holidays! (Season W/L: 5 Wins 15 Losses)
January 4 The first match played by WSP, in the new millennium, went well. They ended up splitting the 2-game match. Unfortunately, the last game, with WSP rallying to take the lead at 13-12, was called due to time restrictions. League rules state that for a game to be valid, a team must win by 2 points. WSP showed a new-look "scrappy" defense, but were not as consistent on offense as they would have liked. This new-look "scrappy" defense, contrary to popular belief, was actually more successful than the "cement shoes" defense of old. A meeting will be held to discuss the two different styles. They expect many delays in the proceedings and possibly a filibuster from the team manager, Todd Wrucke. Meeting place is at Doolittle's in Eden Prairie, after a match in a couple of weeks. Please bring your ID...Jerry (unless you plan on showing some leg again). (Season W/L: 6 Wins 16 Losses)
