Tonight was well...not so great. Maybe we were distracted by the Twins (heck, I showed up 30 seconds before the game started) or we were just really rusty, but we didn't make much of a game of it (even when we had a 10+ point lead in the second game). Just flat. A little flat-footed. Silly errors. Kind of ugly. Hopefully we kick the rust and make a better show of it next week. Thanks Noah for subbing!

Well, I must say...that was fun...at least relative to last week. Maybe our team was so hodge-podge that we lowered our expectations, but we came out ready to hit tonight (Hatti had our first kill!) and the sets were right there allowing us to swing away. Won a close first game. Lost a nail-biter second game (26-27). Smoked them by 17 in game three (didn't hurt that Pikus served half-a-dozen aces in a row). Sweet. Thanks to our sweet subs Chris and Jed who kept us tall (and thin). Good support and luck from the Pikus family as well. Now, if Punto could have just stayed at third. See you in a couple of weeks...maybe even with a full squad.

We almost had our full squad for the first time this season, but Nat got some last minute laryngitis. Drats! No worries. In steps super sub Nicole. We dropped a close second game, but played well most of the night with some nice sets and kills. Just the boys at Old Chicago. Oh the stories to be told. Ha! I'm out next week. Will we ever be reunited as a team? Good luck.

Fantastics
(from Craig) Playing a familiar opponent we managed to take 2 of 3. In game one, we maintained and played just good enough to hold the lead. Game 2 started off as a stinker, down 9-2, but unlike years past we actually put the throttle down to rise to a 25-14 stomp fest. After suggesting to put the foot to the throat and squash our opponents we gave up a nail-biter in game 3. Jules was let go based on giving out all those freebies, but it appears that we should still get happy hour prices for the squad. Off to the bear tree!

Our first match with our full squad (yes, in our fifth game!) and I actually didn't think we played that poorly (course, I came up gimpy in game three). We definitely had our share or mistakes, but so did our opponents... keeping if fairly close. They were strong setters and blockers and as good of a hitting team as we've played in awhile (their passing is what, if anything, held them back). Nonetheless, we had long points and rallies and the game scores were fairly close (again, excluding the gimpy third game). Fast paced and a pretty good challenge. We'll get another shot at them at the end of the season.

Had a chance to pull our game score back to .500 against a fairly limited team with only five players, but we never really got focused or fired-up. Felt like we stumbled along sort of thinking that these would be easy wins (and the first two, for the most part, were), but we let them get a lead in the last game and didn't step up until it was too late. Boo. So far the pregame giant cookie does not seem to have been the wise strategic move. Oh well...I'm sure we'll test it again.

(from Craig) After a lengthy warm-up, the squad was ready to go. We played the second best squad in the league, and a team that swept us in our previous match. Well, we came to play, and it was the best team effort of the season. We took 2 of 3 and nearly got the sweep. Hustle, and a lack of internal mistakes, kept our focus and enabled us to get the edge at the net. Many early blocks lead to tipping which ultimately earned the victory for our opposition in game 3. We hit Old Chicago to celebrate and earned our sponsorship dollars (yes they will pay for one of our seasons). We grabbed 2 of the top ten spots on Mega-Touch and left with one looming question, "Does celery contain a lot of salt?" Thanks to Jed for subbing once again!

Despite a few clutch errors and not putting too many clean bump-set-spikes together, we played very scrappy with a good deal of energy (must have been our marathon warm-up). We took the first two but again were only able to get two of three dropping the last one 26-27. After an intervention to talk Natalie off the ledge, we headed to OC for the traditional post game meal of Chicken & Cookie. While we waited for the three plates of wings, we also took the #1 spot on Megatough on a surprisingly strong first effort. A few frustrating points, but overall a good night. And, we pulled our overall game record to .500, even though we're 6-2 in match play. Go figure. And, I'm off to go see Dr. Feel (okay, Dr. Kasmirski) to figure out my cramping. Sorry about that.

Took two out of three from an undefeated opponent. Sweet! Just enough to pull our record above .500! Another winning season!
