(from Rainbow) Welcome Back - 2005 Purple Edition. The Seeds were living the high life with upgraded entrees at the Hogger and extra Texas Toast, and don't forget the Olives. Tough day at the ballfield unfortunately. Game 1 was a pitching duel, but we dropped it. Great defense however, can't think of any errors. One Two Three, down goes the seeds. Four Five Six, We can't hit. Seven Eight Nine, A big ball of Twine. Ten! Game 2 had us mount a nice comeback to close the gap to one in the seventh, only to succumb to the onslaught of their bleeding dribblers and well placed singles. Dropped it big, 21-9. At least Jeff stayed busy in the OF. SF Giants? Barry is hurt, we got a sub! Welcome John to the team. Played some great Right Field and will no doubt continue to take advantage of the 3 strike rule further into the season (welcome to the club!). The only power tonight came from Darren with a couple of doubles. You could see the rust on the bat - wait a minute, where is the new bat? Craig......

Medium Sirloin with Baked Potato - $10.95
New Bat - $250
Pack of Heaters - $3.25
Having a dim witted umpire with no hustle and glaucoma - priceless.

Let's get em next week. Wear your purple with pride as we go to square our record to 2-2.

(from Grant) About as coordinated as Dar's fajitas. I hate losing to squads that have less than 10 guys. We got 10 runned by a team that did not have matching uniforms after we borrowed them a catcher and 10 runned them the first game. The good news was that we did it up big at the hogger. We were living large with an extra $80 and Dee was big pimping with his new Blackberry. So, If the whole team wants to be P-I-M-P, we need to W-I-N next week.

(from the Birthday Boy... oh yeah, and our fielding was as sloppy as the stats. Look for yourself) Seven come eleven. Seven fellas in their unitards at the start of the game, (this after all of the boys were warned about traffic and the weather) it must be an age thing, but I was grumpy. Well the boys started to trickle in (pun intended, Dar we weren't just practicing) and so did the runs. The Seeds kept their opponents chodes on edge as they batted through the lineup. The streak continued just long enough to field eight for our first run in the field. With a southpaw on the mound the opposition could do nothing with his nasty junk. Game one went to the wire with highlights of diving catches, a one run victory, Keith going yard, and a few others with some long fly outs (at least in the book...... make sure you get that asterisks next to Grants, just think if that tree wasn't there).

Game 2 had a series of ups and downs. The sticks stayed hot, but there was some shaky defense. Dorn, a.k.a One Cup, looked like a pylon as ground balls just seemed bounce off the oven mitt. The biggest mistake coming with one out and a great opportunity for a D.P., wait didn't we already have two outs? How's a guy supposed to keep track of that? The attitude quickly went from sour to sweet as we dropped an 11 spot on the Midgets and essentially put the game out of reach.

Quenching our thirst, we requested the manager to try to get some freebees for a birthday boy. Sorry no can do, but they can charge you extra for cheese. What's that coming from the kitchen....... it Taint our food. Eventually we did eat, which for the record was hot. A little Beth, and an Estranged Buck Hunter put Dar at the apex of his early hunting career (38 bucks, gives you something to shoot for). Back to .500. The seasons looking up!

(from John C.) The Seeds continued their winning ways this week. The Warf with cheese almost made the cycle (for an upcharge of course), the Chicken pasta dish was a return to the lineup by Pat, who tried mightily but could not get er done, and even the pitchers of beer were flowing. Who would have known that after 8 years you earn a free pitcher of beer. Speaking of beer and pitchers, there was a great toast to the pitcher and the outfield for their fantastic play - we had to pull another one out. We also toasted and fondly remembered Ace. The million dollar bet of who could live off of the back wall of alcohol for a year was discussed again but apparently no takers yet - Dan seems to be the best candidate. Before Mark Burnett calls Dan will be developing our own reality TV programming by coordinating the team trip to Vegas.

On the field it was nice to see the majority of the team come early (plus or minus 10 minutes). Hey, having everyone straggle in during our first inning at bats seems to be working. It was also family night on the diamond as Shelly, Michelle, Charlotte and Heidi came out to join the sell out crowd to root the Seeds on. Tschak came to play as he woke the bats with a booming 2 run shot to start the scoring spree. He also flashed the glove and wheels (ok, give him a little credit for the wheels) with some fine put outs and legged out a double. Dar backed up his pitching with some great line drive stops off of the 7' opposing catcher and continued his consistent batting. Fine plays were made by the outfield as Jeff backed up some shoddy play as Pat and John misjudged a couple fly balls. Keith also made some routine catches and often called off his fellow outfielders to take the glory. The infield made some tough plays look routine as Lee worked his way back into the line up, Dan made some fine scoops at first (it's the one's three inches above his outstretched glove that you have to be worried about), and Craig remembered to finish the double play which capped off a two game sweep of the other Hoggsbreath team. 5 and 3 and we're looking to roast the Backyard Bar and Grill next week.

(from Lee) Another sweep for the Hoggers! The team continues to play stellar defense, while performing very sporadically at the plate. We might do some serious damage if we keep up the gloves and decide to hit. The current 6 game win streak has propelled the mighty Hoggers into second place. Lets keep it up boys. Some very scrambled (egg reference) calls by the umpire led to some interesting repartee (spelling?) with some moron, I think I'm being generous here, from the backyard bunch. It appeared as if his inability to make contact at the plate was leading him to take on the whole Hogger team with his ample belly and a dozen eggs. Cries of "Bring it on" led to us all sharpening our fists, but alas, cooler heads prevailed and he went back to his weak groundouts and missing a few high strikes. Who would have turned him sunnyside up? I guess we'll never know but my money's on me or D, I get to say that cuz I'm writing the recap. Best man on the field this week was definitely Pat with 2 dingers including one shot against a strong wind that seemed to hang up forever before it landed just over the fence. Next week we play at 8:00 against a team with only one win, ok, I know I said that last week but this time I looked at the standings. Let's keep it up boys and roll into first place.

(from Mark) Two games. Forty runs. Two wins. The Hoggsies continued rolling thanks to some nice hitting to go along with sub par fielding and a bad opponent. Pugsie pitched a great couple games, even though he gave up more walks and runs than Dar has all year. At the plate, Tschaksie was all about the extra bases, Subsie was mad spraying it to right while gobbling up everything at short and Teapotsie can draw a walk on anybody and almost make a throw all the way to first base. And what a way to end it all - Schlichtsie picks up the ball (along with five pounds of hay) and zips it home, relay on the money, Grantsie makes the tag (even with a splitting headache - reminiscent of Jordan in the NBA finals, what a gutsy performance - should he be gutsy instead of Grantsie?). Game over. Time for Juggsie to celebrate and Honksie can finally knock that crap off.

10-4

Game 1 - Started with nine (surprise, surprise), no one knew the batting order, was losing 0-4 after the first inning, won the game 16-7.
Game 2 - Gave up nine in one ugly inning. Had seven total hits (Grant had two). Lost 12-0 (yup, that's a goose egg).

Now time for player participation. Please select your top five teammates for the following categories (and don't be modest... with this group... yeah right!): Fastest 40 Yard Dash - Fastest Around the Bases (home to home) - Strongest Arm - Best in a Fight - Best Overall Athlete Now - Best Overall Athlete in Their Prime (High School? College?) - Can Hold the Most Liquor - Clean Plate Club (Alfredo?) - Best Judge of Twin's Talent - Most Game with the Ladies - Whatever other measure you want to send to the team. Send in your results and I will compile. Now, get to work! And hey, no game next week.

10-6

Let the new tournament format begin! And, 48 or so fly outs later... we dropped both in our opening round. First game was decently close. Second game might have been one of our worst ever (including possibly our worst inning ever). Some ugly stuff. We scored 15 runs combined. They may have gotten 15 in one inning.

(from Craig) Is it athletic? Is there an offense and defense? What is the third thing again? Anyhow, sex seemed to be the sport of choice, but apparently the male species is always on the offensive. To stay on topic, when asked if Heidi is good at "Buck Hunter", she said, I'm good at pumping. Well despite having an injury that sidelines a guy for 6 weeks, Keith was grinning ear to ear on this one. To the game.... there really isn't too much to talk about besides the controversial play at the plate. Let's call the Midgets player "sled", well for some reason sled thought he could make it home on the play... and a quick relay from the outfield to Caven and from Caven to Grant left him dead in his tracks. The problem was he apparently didn't see the circus tent that Grant had set up in front of the plate and decided to bowl him over. Grant's not small, and despite sled lowering his shoulder (according to umpire), he could have hit Grant harder. We never could get this out of our head and we sent Suki out to retaliate. Yeah he tagged up from second and gave an accidental elbow to the opposition as he flew into the baseline. Well Suki was safe, their pitcher said that is my boy, and sled for some reason thought that he actually could be part of an argument. Well their team name is due to the fact that they are Mental Midgets and each and every one of their voices seemed to make as much sense as their fans knowledge of Marky Mark tunes. Oh yeah, could you send one of your fat chicks to get that home run ball..... Won one, lost one (by more). See you next week for the championship of the losers.

12-8

(from Rainbow) It was a summer of love, a summer of fun, and most importantly a summer of comrodity and togetherness that held this group of 30 somethingers together.

The top 10 reasons it's good to be a Hoggsbreath softball player.

#10 - Blue Marlin, Red Dragon, Orange Crush, GoldenRod, who else would name their inanimate objects?

#9 - The Jerseys! After 3 plus seasons, they are still holding together.

#8 - A free night out to the bar every week! For some players, that's better than gold.

#7 - Grant's bar stories. Although more tame this year, GW's always entertains us as we live vicariously through his stories.

#6 - Breakfast at 8 pm. Nuff said.

#5 - Diebert's commentary. "Way to earn that walk" "Nice call old man" "Nice high five after getting a walk" It is truly endless and provides great entertainment.

#4 - Watching Pat run the bases. I think he purposely tries to get in the hot box to piss off the other team when they can't catch him. When he is batting and they yell out "watch out - this one's got speed" ...it is quite priceless.

#3 - Hot days. When we can't tell if its the biffy that smells or us, you know you're workin' hard.

#2 - The book. From the experiment of having Rainbow the fulltime bookkeeper at the same time as being the utility man to having Gumby "hopalong" Keith the bookman now that he is out to error disputes, sac flies, HR outs, just keeping track of the lineup is hard enough. But we all love the stats! Congrats again to Tschak for leading the team in at bats. Take a walk will ya!

#1 - Tripod, GW's, Rainbow, Suks, JC, D, Tschak, Dar, Keith, Jeffy, John, Craig, Todd. This was a great summer!

#0 (not from Rainbow) - Someone found their pot of gold... Danny leading the squad in singles. Impressive, my boy.
