Tuesday Evening Coed Softball - St. Louis Park
(Definity Health, Captain: Amy Marsh)

Date Time Field How'd we do?
May 1 6:00 Dakota West
A little darkness, a bit of a downpour, some hail, a tornado siren and then sunshine. Too late. Game was rained out. Opening day gets moved back a week.
May 8 9:25 Aquila 3
Man, give up a dozen or so runs in one inning (off of a dozen or so errors) and you're going to be in tough shape. Actually managed a pretty nifty comeback, but still lost by two. Still gelling (0-1)
May 15 8:20 Aquila 2
Definite improvement (although improvement doesn't necessarily get you a win). Improved D, some clutch hitting (including a dinger by C.C.) and all around good cheer forced a tight pitcher's duel that was squeaked out by our gracious opponents with a seventh inning dinger of their own. (0-2).
May 22 6:10 Aquila 1
Rain, rain go away... no game this week... all washed-out.
May 29 7:15 Aquila 5
Couple of calls go our way and Definity Health wins. Instead, we dropped a nail-biter twenty to five (yes, 20 to 5). I guess there's some correlation between the number of hits a team gets and how many points the put on the board. Didn't play terribly bad, just got into a deep hole and had some trouble digging-out. Win number one is sure to come soon. (Overall: 0-3)
June 5 6:10 Aquila 3
Definity Won! Yes, you heard me right... let me say it one more time... Definity won! Yes, I'm speechless. Finally, the rain is our friend. On a sloppy field, in a game we almost had to forfeit (probably because most of you ditched), we squeaked out an 18-2 victory over Deloitte & Touche (in your face!).
From Amy - "See, winning is fun!" (Overall: 1-3)
June 12 9:25 Aquila 1
What a barn-burner (until the wee hours of the night)! It was back and forth the whole game. Some clutch-hitting (especially by the ladies), stellar fielding, close-the-door pitching by Ackerman and Claseman and an almost (another) triple by Amy kept Definity Health close. But, in the first extra-inning, a stray DH runner (glasses, Asian, underwriter... you know the guy) carrying the tying run got a bit too aggressive and was thrown out in a close play at the plate (i.e. we lost by one). Better luck next time. (Overall: 1-4)
June 19 6:10 Dakota West

Well, the Definity Health sports league curse strikes again as Dawn "Charlie Hustle" Kapanke came up scraped and sprained barreling into third on a sweet slide. Even with this setback, DH was able to go bat to bat with our opponents (everybody hits!) and out-swing them to our second victory (three straight according to Amy... you do the math). Highlights include on opposite field grand slam by Brad "Boom Boom" Teichroew and a lot of walks by the opposing pitchers. Oh, if anyone cares, Julie found her keys. (Overall: 2-4).

June 26 8:20 Aquila 3
I'll be honest with you... a couple games into the season, I was saying... we're not good (and for those of you who are confused, when I saw "we" I mean the Definity Health Softball Team), but, you know what, we can play with these teams. We had another good game that slipped away (well, maybe by 10 or so runs), but only because of a couple slight minor fielding goofs and a couple of good innings on their part. Course, I can't really think of any highlights (can of corn my ass). Oh well. We're on our way. (Overall: 2-5).
July 3 6-10 Aquila 1

Turn on the lights (yes, I realize it was broad daylight out), cue the theme song from "The Natural", ring the cell phone... yes, it was quite a dramatic night. First, Dave Dickey was called off the mound (literally) by the ringing of his cell phone with the "my wife might be going into labor" call... updates on that to follow. As for the game, DH entered the bottom of the seventh down by seven (yes, I said seven). After a game of very little offense, we brought it together capping it all when DH athlete of the week Leah Isaacson ripped a single up the middle stealing a 14-13 win. Three cheers for Definity Health and their boyfriends! (Overall: 3-5).

July 10 8:20 Aquila 1
With Amy's entourage looking on, DH pulled out another dramatic win. Tied heading into the seventh, "PowerPuff" Paul Claseman drilled one to the fence driving in a scooting Heather Lastname all the way from first. We then had some kick-butt D in the bottom of the seventh to protect the one-run lead, including an unbelievable stab at second by Tiffany "Stick it" Stoeber and a sweet put-out (Eiden to Brad) to end the game. Get this, we're .500. Yikes! (Overall: 4-5)
July 17 7:15 Aquila 1
Do we got game or do we got game? Three wins in a row... and, the game felt like it took 30 minutes because we came with a quick can of whoop! You know, pretty fun too (because winning is fun, right?). Not bad considering we had to push Tony to finish his presentation (yeah, just skip those slides) to make sure we had enough players. Good game everyone. (Overall: 5-5).
July 24 6:10 & 7:15 Aquila 2
So, we start out our double-header by scoring five runs in the top of the first. Not bad, huh? That's when the wheels fell off the bus. To not get into too much detail, we then proceeded to spend 95% of the rest of the evening in the field. We dropped the first one 33-11 (ouch!). Well, it can't get much worse than that, right? Try 28-6 in game two (that's a total of 61-17… sound better? Not really). Oh well. It was a fun season (at least until that last half-inning). See you next year. (Overall: 5-7).

Info: Rainouts: In the even of threatening weather, participants are encouraged to call the "rain line" (952-924-2567) no earlier than two hours prior to the scheduled game time to find out if games have been canceled.
