Date Time Field How'd we do?
May 2 6:00 C.P. Vic 4

Game 1 - First inning rally. What a start, nine runs in our first at bat (anyone else think we were going to cream this team?) led us to a 18-5 win.
Game 2 - First inning blues. Some ugly gloves led to 11 runs in the first inning by our opponents (guess it works both ways). Tough hole to climb out of... dropped her 12-17. Although Schulte did crunch one over the left field wall.
(Overall: 1-1)

May 9 6:00 Parkview SW

Even with a good meal, the Ciati's boys got swept by the Mints (no dancing though)
Game 1 - Won a low-scoring pitcher's duel (tight strike zone and all) with some stellar D (is this us?)
Game 2 - Some highlight reel D (including some hot shots to Salty and a catch by Keith you won't believe (was it worth it?)), timely hitting and a "bunt" single helped us pull out a win in the bottom of the seventh
(Overall: 3-1)

May 16 6:00 C.P. Lex. NW

Game 1 - Have you ever seen it this good? I've been playing a long time (well, two seasons) and I've never seen the infield play tighter... heck, we only gave up two runs
Game 2 - More of the same. Till tossed a "three" hitter (who's doing the math here?) "the rest were errors, fielder's choice, etc.", Schlichting cleared the fence with a $180 rocket shot, and the infield, again, outdid itself as Damon capped another stellar defensive effort with a bare-handed stab at second that was right out of the HeMan cartoon.
Good thing we have all these engineers because we're on a roll... choo... choo!
(Overall: 5-1)
*Take his wife, please! Don't forget to catch the comedic styling of Grant Wyffels every Wednesday night at the Hoggsbreath. Two shows a night (and boy are his arms tired).

May 23 6:00 C.P. Lex. SW
Game 1 - Maybe it was the chill in the air, the sloppy field, Keith tucked away with his girl on the bench nursing a bum shoulder or us showing up at the wrong field and playing a B league team, but the Mints got smoked by a group that fielded everything, gunned you down from anywhere and hit the ball wherever they wanted. I think we got two, which'll get you ten-runned in the fifth more often than not.
Game 2 - Oh the resiliency. The Mints tightened up there D (the right-fielders really worked the teamwork), got some clutch-hitting and pushed our new nemesis to the brink, but came up short in the bottom of the seventh when a two-run scoring, ball game tying shot by Till was mistakenly called out. Slight bump in this Dynasty's road, but oh well, we got to the bar early enough.
(Overall: 5-3)
*Don't forget to call in early for ticket to see the latest boy band sensation, The Breath Mints starring lead-singer Keith, pretty-boy Schulte, misunderstood Till and exotic Suks. See Puff Danny for management details.
May 30
Little rest for the weary - the Mints get the night off
June 6 6:00 C.P. Lex. SW

Game 1 - Came out swinging and playing some D. Efficiently 10-runned them in the fifth with Jeffy sliding safe at home (at this point, did anyone else think we were going to make it to the Hogger by 7:30?).
Game 2 - Let the veterans (yeah, I'm talking about the jean-wearing cigarette smoker) stick around (okay, maybe took the game a bit for granted). Although we had three dingers (Vad 2, Salty), of which two counted for outs (not in our books), our opponents were able to match our 7th inning rally with a last-at-bat rally of their own (and even Grant's new digs couldn't help us out). Lost 13-12.
(Overall: 6-4)

June 13 6:00 C.P. Vic 3

All the way from California... let's welcome Mark Deibert! Yes, there was a celebrity in town... but the Hoggers were able to block-out all the entourages and paparazzi and play some serious game.
Game 1 - Splish-splash... a little messy but still managed an impressive win riding a dinger by Tschak (thanks for wasting it on a solo shot in the first).
Game 2 - Man, we come out with seven in the first... and how many do we have after five innings?... you guessed it... seven. Well, we stuck together and managed some big hits in the bottom of the sixth and seventh for a last-at-bat comeback victory... impressive.
(Overall: 8-4)

June 20 6:00 C.P. Lex. SW
Game 1 - Bullshit! Not sure what happened here. Some teams get to back six times, some teams seven. I guess I'll call it a tie until I hear from the captain. Although, it sure was nice to watch DF stroke one over the fence.
Game 2 - Riding the emotional low of getting screwed in game 1, we came out a bit flat and let Hoggsbreath Blue II steal one from us in the bottom of the seventh... not that they ever swung the bat (where's Deibert when you need him?).
Other highlights included homerun outs by Darren and Tschak, a 15 for 16 night by the lefties and a couple of sweet 350 yard drives on Golden Tee 2002. Try to get to bed a a decent time boys. Over and out.
(Overall: 8-5-1)

Well, I wasn't there so there will be no eloquent write-up that you're all so used to... I guess we dropped two. (Overall: 8-7-1)
July 4
My Country Tis of Thee, Sweet Land of... - No game, it's the Fourth (be safe now)
July 11 6:00 Parkview SW

The odds of taking both games were as likely as finding a set of keys between two video game machines after SOMEONE had "accidentally" picked them up and forgot, but we did it. Riding four homeruns (Till, Suks and two from DF... not having fences isn't all that bad), The Mints squeaked out a couple at our favorite field in front of our largest attendance during "bring your significant to the game" night. Must be the new lids (thanks DF!).
Game 1 - Come-from-behind win with The Mints scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to take her 10-6.
Game 2 - Anyone else think we were going to get smoked (the other team can't feel good about dropping this one to us)? After giving up five runs (on about ten errors) in the first and not scoring a run through our first three innings, we exploded for 17 in the next three (including 10 in the sixth).
(Overall: 10-7-1)

July 18 6:00 C.P. Vic 4

Thanks to EVERYONE for their participation in Mints Goatee Night 2001. It was such a huge success that I'm sure it'll be back next season.
Game 1 - Finally used our homerun correctly as the first three batter filled up the bags and Tschak (nervous about the grand slam, not the engagement) drilled one over the fence. We also watched Welsand drill one out, but Grant Thorton came up a bit short in game one.
Game 2 - GT did everything but come up short in this one. When you dig a 0-15 hole after two innings (an equal combination of poor bats and horrendous fielding on our part) you're going to have a tough go at it. And we had a tough go. What a way to end the season (they even had to utilize the little-used bat twice in a row rule on us... pathetic). Yes, we lost.
Oh well. Good season boys. We'll see you in the fall in the new tans (especially now that I've learned the joys of Golden Tee).
(Overall: 11-8-1)
