(from Craig) - The hogger faced off against "The Dogs", which we were told won the C league in the summer session. Our pitcher "DF", being the seasoned veteran he is, tried to get there players to swing at junk and they just weren't buying it. We gave up a few runs each and every inning and didn't combat those runs with runs of our own. This team was solid and had no problem using the 2 home run limit.
Between games, since we were 10 runned in the seventh, the boyz took some grounders and fly balls. We were feeling sharp. After supplying a catcher, we started the second game. As the evening progressed the field conditions got worse (the fog, lumpy infield, and dirty ball) and that made it difficult to make plays in the infield. After a failed rover attempt by the coach, the hogger made a late 9-run push in the top of the 7th, sending the game to the bottom of the inning only to be let down by some crafty hitting by a bunch of weasels.
Next week look out, the boys are starting to heat up. The one-pitch league is leaving mixed feelings. Grant was quoted saying, "The way I'm hitting, I know my average isn't going to go down." Which was followed up by the a few members stating that "It's pretty hard to go down when you're batting .250." We'll leave it at that. (Overall: 0-2)

"Maybe they are off in the woods getting it on" - The ineffective week two rally cry of the Breath Mints.
Game 1 - Well, we gave up nine in the second inning and tried to dig our way out from there. Made a game of it rallying back (led by dingers from G Dubbs (take my wife, please!) and Butch). In the end, fell two runs short.
Game 2 - Defense (including a diving snare from Till in his newly found outfield home) and pitching was stellar as we shut them out through four. Course, we then decided to test out big inning theory by giving them 10 in the fifth. Doors fell off at that point as we were ten-runned in the seventh. (Overall: 0-4)

Okay, I've got a couple of theories on the matter. First, we can't hit for crap. Second, there is a much bigger skill differentiation between the C/D fall league and the D summer league. Third, when given the choice, we would chose to run on one good ankle instead of two. Finally, we waste too much time talking about flying squirrels, hairless brains (pictures to follow?) and having fun at grandma's house. Despite a bit of power hitting from Schak, Teapot, GWs and Patsmear, and a big arm in left from Vad... Hogger Gold dropped a couple of more (in 10 run fashion) to a couple of brick houses. Oh well. See you this weekend at the Schlichtings (course, if we don't, it better be because you're hitting the cages). (Overall: 0-6)

"It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game" - "The real joy comes in participating" - "What a great night to be outside" - "Does anyone remember what we did for our pre-bar activity?" 'Nuff Said. (Overall: 0-8)

Teapot's five goals for the night. 1. More hits than K's 2. A lot more hits 3. A win 4. Actually, I can't remember 4 (probably had something to do with not hurting his knee) 5. Ten run our opponent. Well Lee, sorry you couldn't see the finish (refer to the aforementioned knee injury), but ask and you just might receive.
Game 1 - Undefeated Drillers versus (whatever the exact opposite of undefeated is) Us. Well, the first three innings were softball heaven. DF's tossing a no-hitter and the our bats are swinging. Then they get 12 in the fourth. Same old Mints, right? No, we stay resilient and make a game of it. Still lose, but no 10-run loss. Hey, it's a start.
Game 2 - This is what you've been waiting for... riding the not lose by 10 run momentum, the Hoggers emerged from the fog like the Phoenix rising from the ashes and earned their first win... and 10 run victory at that. How do you like us know? (Overall: 1-9)
(Good swing tonight boys. Couple stand-outs: Tshak - HR, Winslow - 7 for 9, Till - 6 for 6, Salty - 2 HRs)
Upcoming party at Craig's, or was it Dar's new place, or was it at the Dan's... or the Embassy Suites? More to follow. Oh, one final thing from Till... "G Dubs, don't worry if you can't make it next week"

To be honest, I don't really remember much from last night's game (Teapot drilled one to the other field and Schlich had an opposite field dinger). Yeah, we dropped a couple of more, but they were competitive and pretty good games (i.e. nobody got 10-runned in the fifth). Good season boys! Looking forward to Hogging it with you next year. See you in the off-season. (Overall: 1-11)
