Slow, slow start (a bit too antsy-pantsy)... came back strong in the second half, but not quite enough. Dropped her 2 TDs to 3. (0-1)

Look what happens when you play a little D. Shorthanded and all, the Aztecs chalk-up win number one (3 scores to 2) and are only getting better. Look out Saturday morning stooges... we're on it. (1-1... and I got a feeling starting next week, we never see .500 ball again)

(from the captain) After jumping out to a quick two touchdown deficit, the Aztecs were able to get back in the game with a touchdown strike from veteran signal caller Todd "Silky" Wilkinson to fiery Charlie Griak. Not long after, displaced nose tackle Bill Nielsen filling in as a free safety misjudged a tipped ball and got beat deep for a half-time tally of 19-6. The Aztecs buckled down on defense during the second half. Free agent signee Neera Gupta and Joel Carey shut down the opposing team's right side, forcing them to go left every time. After an initial defensive stop, Todd hit Jessi Nikko deep after a brilliant route and the first drive ended with another Wilkinson-Griak TD.
On the next play, demoted free safety Bill Nielsen inserted as a cornerback picked off an errant pass. In a crafty coaching move, Todd Wilkinson inserted Nielsen as the QB to run amok. This was followed by a risky play that payed big dividends - Todd Wilkinson scratched a play in the dirt requiring Bill to utilize the forward pass! Pam "Your Nemesis" Sukhum, stretched to catch a soft pass just short of paydirt. Todd burned a path from the left side of the end zone to the far right corner to catch the touchdown pass making the score 19-18. A similar play to the opposite corner for Joel was shut down by the defense.
Approximately 4 minutes remained. On the second play, Bill went for another interception and was burned on the hook and go for another touchdown making it 25-18. The Aztecs were confident as they moved down the field, but were denied a score on 4th down as time ran out.

Saturday morning, the Aztecs came together and played their best game to date. It was a well-balanced attack with each player involved in a score. The first half started with a nice drive capped by a touchdown from Todd to Bill, and the extra point to Pat. After a lucky touchdown by the opposing team, Todd hit Charlie for a second score resulting in a yelp from the guy wearing the red tuxedo shirt who was beaten on the play. After the red team was stopped on their next drive, the Aztecs took a couple shots at the end zone before the half-time whistle, leaving the score at 13-7.
The second half opened with an interception by Joel Carey which turned out to be the pivotal play of the game. I believe it was this drive when Todd hit Jessi with a deep ball for the TD. Jessi made a Moss-like play as she adjusted for the ball and beat the defender. On the ensuing drive, John lurked in the shadows like a wily puma waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting ball if the QB threw a floater in his direction. The QB read the defense incorrectly and threw it towards John's man at which point John pounced and picked off the pass returning it for the score. Todd then connected with Pam for the extra point. Somewhere in there, Jessi caught another TD. After that, the red team implemented a trick play in which Bill was clipped, or upended, in the end zone, resulting in a score for the red team. On the next drive Charlie hit Joel in the end zone for the TD after a beautiful crossing route. Mercifully for the red team, time soon ran out.
(Overall: 2-2)

We lost and didn't even score a point. Frustrating. Enough said. (Overall: 2-3)

Although the little Asian QB (that would be me) did everything he could to give our opponents the game at the end, the Aztecs pulled off the upset of the season over an undefeated group of maulers. Things got a bit heated... but some tight D, clutch scores and key knockdowns (and a sweet pick) by Charlie sparked the Aztecs as they now head into the play-offs with a head of steam. I guess that's the result of positive thinking, right Bill? (Overall: 3-3)

Playoffs Begin - I heard we won... waiting for someone to confirm the rumor. No matter, see you next weekend for championship Saturday

Well, the run got cut a bit short. Dropped a heartbreaker in the quarterfinals. D played tough, but we just couldn't get any points on the board. Only good thing, the invention of Big Boy/Little Boy frisbee golf. Catch the fever!
