Sean "clean that up at halftime" Stucke
The Vegas odds makers had us as 700 to 1 to win, 120 to 1 to get a goal, 16 to 1 to get off a quality shot and the over/under on the number of shots new goalie Leif "COBRA III" Hembre was going to face was somewhere around 60. But, somewhere between the barrage of "RE: RE: FW: test" e-mails we all received this week and the team line-up coming together right before game time, we found our game. Sure, it helped that we had gym floor stickiness ice (ULTRA ice) and our opponents only had five to six players at any time, but we still blew away all expectations. Newbie Brad Teichrow opened the floodgates with an early goal. We spent the rest of the game running them into exhaustion as additional goals were scored by Bill, Joe, Todd, and super subs Grant and Nate. We also welcomed team enforcer Joel back after a one-year hiatus. Health insurance or not (AFLAC!), he wasn't going to get onside any faster than he wanted to get onside (we missed you man!). Finally, big kudos to sub Sean Stucke, who spent the entire game in all-out scoot mode, took a cheap shot from the opposing spaz, and finished with blood on his hands and a bleeding scar on his face. Nice outing Ultra! Let's see what the bookies throw at us for next week!

Craigy "Hustle"
We played pretty well and showed good hustle (especially MOTM Craig Schlichting who was everywhere!), but still spent much of the game continuing to gel as a team. Although we did get a pretty goal from Grant, overall, we just didn't take advantage of our scoring chances and our opponents did. Keep the spirits up! We'll see what we can do to scrap together another team next week and give it another go. Plus, we're only a couple weeks away from $2 Cap'N & Cokes. Ahhhh....

Leif Hembre
Well, at least Ben collected all of his $$$. Splish Splash! The mix of sloppy creases, slippery corners, and giant standing water puddles that sucked in every pass might have made these the worst conditions we have ever seen. Plus, the game got a bit rough (just ask Craig, Brad, John and whoever else got taken down) when the ref decided to take what amounted to a 60 minute smoke break (high sticks for all!)... and rough just ain't our game. We did actually have a 1-0 lead early on, but some outside blasts quickly put us at a 1-4 half-time deficit. Leif was unbeatable in the second half with a beautiful mix of sprawling, kicking and diving saves and we even tallied another as Joel finished off a beautiful feed from super sub John... but that's as close as we got. Course, I hope your shoes have dried out, you've kicked your hypothermia and you've got your frostbite all wrapped it because we've got another one in two days... and it's looking like it's going to be just as sloppy.

Billy D. (who also played some sweet O)
Not a bad way to end a season that started with five returning players (one forward) and was almost completely scrapped (uh hum... Joe). Any other year, and tonight's ice would have been crap, but relative to what we've seen in past weeks... we were playing at Lake Placid. And, it was sticky ULTRA ice. We welcomed back good luck charm Joey Z. (he shows, we win... it's that simple) who brought back a bit of organization and his overall game. Team defense was impressive and Leif was a stone wall stopping initial shots and rebound after rebound. Man of the Match Bill and Man of the Meal Craig each slipped a couple past The Porpoise and super sub John added a couple goals of his own. Pat, between figuring out what his ass is, had one too. Brad, Todd, Sean and Grant also played the team game to perfection with some beautiful passes, feeds and hustle on D. Now, all we need to do is celebrate. I suggest we all meet at Craig's office. Todd, find your key. Sean, bring the jelly donuts. I'll bring the Foreman grill. Bill, bring the T-Bones! Tequila and pickles for everyone! Good (short) season all! Big thanks to the new players and subs for making the season possible!

Braddy T. and Matty L.
Here's your formula for success. 1. Hustle your eight guys to make the 6:00 start time. 2. Find out your game really isn't until 8:00 (uh hum... Ben!). 3. Have one of your guys (your goalie) go home. 4. Go to the bar and have drinks (or, if you're like me, go to the mall). 5. Have another one of your players, (Oragina - note that Craig pointed out that this should rhyme with a certain organ in the female reproductive system), leave to let the dog out. 6. Talk about survivor. 7. Go back to the rink with six player. 8. Put your equipment on... again. 9. Pick up two players, including a goalie, from a team standing around because their opponent didn't show up. 10. Smoke the other team in a shutout! Good game squad... and much better than expected (which maybe is the theme for this entire year). After two reschedules, we finally played Cardinal White and took it to them. Brad led the offensive charge with two goals (one on a big outside blast) and a sweet assist. On the defensive end, Matt controlled the entire game with his speed and a sweet mix of strong outside shots and smart passing. Heck, we almost looked like a team out there. Goalie sub played well and the rest of the boys (sub Kevin, sub Justin, Sean, Craig and Pat) ran around and filled holes. Little brisk on the lake tonight, but not a bad way to end the season (over .500!). For the last time in 2006... COBRA!!!
